Broughton is a British clothing brand focused on quality, purpose, and timeless design. Our core collection, British Essence, is built around the life and values of Jack Broughton a man who rose from poverty to national respect without cutting corners or losing his integrity.

Jack Broughton was born into hardship. He earned his living rowing a taxi boat on the Thames, relying on strength and determination to get by. Over time, he made his way into bareknuckle boxing and rose to become the undefeated champion of 18th century England. He didn’t just win fights, he dominated them. But his legacy isn’t just about victory.

He saw the sport for what it was. Dangerous, disorganised and often brutal for the sake of spectacle. Broughton introduced the Broughton Rules, the first proper set of boxing rules designed to bring structure and safety to the ring. He also founded Britain’s first boxing academy, where he taught discipline, skill, and control, not just brute force.

Later in life, Broughton stepped away from fighting and became a successful antiques dealer. His shift from fighter to gentleman showed that reinvention isn’t a trend, it’s earned. He died with respect and was buried in Westminster Abbey, an honour that reflected not just what he did, but how he did it.
